The Learning Program

Classes & Registration

All Maren Fund programs will be conducted using an online platform September thru December, resuming in-person classes in January, 2021. 

Level 1 Classes (Ages 4 - 7* years)

Level 1 is our foundational class for anyone new to the program or returning students ages 4-to 7-years old. Level 1 focuses on building literacy and math skills and enhancing learning at school and at home. Students entering this class should be able to match picture-to-picture and understand at least 50 words (students are not required to be verbal). 

 

Parent lectures align with subjects learned in Kindergarten/First Grade. Please note: Students should be 4-years old by July 31, 2020, or have attended the Early Childhood Class to be eligible to enter Level 1. This class will feature monthly live Zoom sessions plus additional supports from Sept-Dec with the hopes of resuming in-person classes from Jan – May 2021.

          $200 for Jan - May 

Price includes four Zoom Sessions, Q&A/dialogue, learning support videos, home-use materials, all materials delivered, five in-person sessions (pending COVID-19); scholarships available)

Level 2 Classes (Ages 5 - 9* years)

Level 2 is for students who repeated Level 1 or are 5-to 9-years old. This age range is just a guideline: Appropriate class level is dependent on the student's skill level. The lecture and materials in Level 2 build on skills acquired in Level 1, adding higher-level literacy skills (spelling and comprehension) and introducing subjects such as addition, time, and money. 

 

This class will feature monthly live Zoom sessions and extra supports from Sept-Dec with the hopes of being in-person from Jan – May 2021.

Level 3 Classes (Ages 8 - 12* years)

Level 3 is for students who repeated Level 2 or are between 8 to 10+ years old, depending on skill level (please note, the age range is just a guideline). Lecture and materials continue to build on skills acquired in Level 2, continuing with literacy and math skills (e.g., comprehension, grammar, writing, subtraction, higher-level math skills), focusing on building independence and social skills (friendships, character traits, etc.) 

 

This class will feature monthly live Zoom sessions plus additional supports from Sept-Dec, with the hopes of being in-person from Jan – May 2021.

Junior Grad Group

Our Jr. Grad Group is for students who have completed our Learning Program Level 3 class and are interested in staying involved with their friends. Jr. Grad Group is a "precursor" to our Maren Prep Classes: Jr. Grad Group is a great way to build social skills while interspersing continued academic skills as well. This class involves working on greetings, etiquette, games, and everyday math and reading skills such as reading a menu and ordering in a restaurant. Students enjoy a fun time with their friends! 

 

This class will feature monthly live Zoom sessions plus additional supports from Sept-Dec, with the hopes of being in-person from Jan – May 2021. Each session will focus on a particular topic.

What are Learning Program classes? 

 

The Learning Program of St. Louis is an educational program offered for parents and children with Down syndrome between the ages of 2 - 10+ years.  Our Learning Program classes are parent/child focused and empower parents to teach their children literay, math and other skills using evidence-based materials and methods.  The St. Louis program is in partnership with The Learning Program of Orange County in California.  It supplements formal literacy and math education through direct instruction to parents and children with customized materials and support.  Please note: parents also attend our Learning Program classes
